Rafael Cambra, Soplo 2023
Rafael Cambra has spent most of his life in a vineyard. His family own one of the most prestigious nurseries in Spain, with clients like Vega Sicilia, Alvaro Palacios and many more. He established his own cellar in 2001 and his vineyards lie inland from Valencia, with olive and almond trees surrounding the vines. His philosophy is minimal intervention from vineyard to cellar to bottle, creating elegant yet restrained wines. Soplo 2023 is made from 80% Garnacha (Grenache) and 20% Monastrell (Mourvedre) taken from a vineyard 700m above sea level. The grapes were fermented and aged in a mixture of stainless steel, old oak and concrete for 4 months prior to bottling. The nose has perfumed plum and raspberry aromas with a touch of earth and leather. The palate is medium bodied with wild berry flavours, smooth, chalky tannins and a fresh finish. A really versatile wine, best paired with game dishes.
